Atmosphere: 'Now THIS looks like a joint!' Rambling building, lots of rusty steel on roof and walls. Fair amount of junk in front. Distinctively different smell from broad product line. Checkered tablecloths offset by goot dead animals and chipboard finish. Great help and super pits, although propane starter used.
Coleslaw: Heavy on mayo. Good leaf but too creamy.
Potato Salad: Mashed and very mustardy.
Pork Loin: Very tender - almost buttery. Good flavor.
Beef: Firm but supple. Breaks easily. Good texture.
Overall: Big Smith himself looked after us.
Spare Rib: Baked to a soft munge.
Sausage: Very firm. Hard to distinguish casing from filling by texture. Boiled?
Hot Link: Hot, good texture with good bite.
Beef Rib: Salty. Not baked. Nice ring - very flavorful.
Beef Rib: A little fatty, very flavorful, meat melts in mouth
Sausage: Too much smoke
Overall: Food was good, not great. I liked the ambiance. Deep fat fryer was a negative. Owner said, “If I ran out of food, I’d get lynched!”
Pork Roast: Very flavorful, good fat content
Hot Link: Very hot, smooth taste, hot aftertastes stays all day
Atmosphere: Outside is a dive! Looks like the late, great “Gunny’s Shack” in Spring, TX. Inside made of particleboard. The smell of a deep fryer is Strong. Peanuts to munch on. Fish and deer trophies on the walls. Checkerboard tables. Box of Betty Crocker Roadkill Helper on shelf!!!
Sauce: Mesquite, sweet sauce
Spare Rib: All I taste is smoke, no flavor
Brisket: Nice texture, good fat, tasty, little firm
Spare Rib: Not crazy about these, and I’m not sure why.
Hot Link: Very firm and spicy.
Beef Rib: Nicely done, good smoke flavor and very tender for a beef rib.
Pork Roast: Nice.
Sides: Mustard tater salad, but too whipped.
Sauce: Right out of the bottle, I’m guessing KC’s Masterpiece.
Brisket: Very tasty.
Atmosphere: This is a hodge podge place. They got BBQ chicken, fried steak and other stuff. Peanuts on the table and shells on the floor, and the waitress is a sweetie. Road Kill Helper by Betty Crocker – funny I don’t remember seeing that brand of Hamburger Helper at the local market. This place smells like grease instead of smoke. Dead animals and memorabilia everywhere.
