dbarrow2's Review of Kozy Kitchen

Joint:
  • Overall: A neat place that has obviously been around a long time for one reason or another. If I had to guess there was probably 10 inches of soot on the top of the grills in the back. Beautiful baby, if you can't stand the heat stay the heck out of the kitchen!
  • Spare Rib: The ribs have a nice caramelized brown sugar rub with a hint of salt. They remind me alot of some of the ribs we had in East Texas last year. They have just a tad too much salt for me but the smokey flavor and sweetness was nice.
  • Veal: The smoked veal is great and deserves to have its merits chanted up and down the back streets of Houston but not to loud and not to late at night in this part of town.
  • Pork: The sliced pork was extremely tender and moist.
  • Brisket: The brisket is a definite mix of both lean and fatty meat. Something about it just felt good in my mouth. It reminds me alot of the way I felt when my ex-girlfriends tongue protruded....
ATTNETION: Scores on brisket by this taster might not necessarily represent that of the entire group or anyone for that matter after influenced by sexual thoughts.
  • Sauce: Starting off with the homemade hot sauce caked on a piece of bread might have not been the smartest thing to do. My forehead is beginning to sweat and my ears have begun to turn read. The heat reminds me of running naked through the Sahara without an oasis in sight.
The regular bbq sauce has nothing to it, probably just used to moisten up the meat.
  • Sauce: Starting off with the homemade hot sauce caked on a piece of bread might have not been the smartest thing to do. My forehead is beginning to sweat and my ears have begun to turn red. The heat reminds me of running naked through the Sahara without an oasis in sight.
  • Atmosphere: On the corner of Margarita street this might be my new favorite joint.
Simple design with colorful orange bench seating with an empty fish tank in the corner similar to mine at home. The jukebox is from the early 70’s with a nice set of killer blues on it. Our opening selection is “The Thrill Is Gone” by B.B. King on vinyl. The only thing on the green walls is a write up in the local African American newspaper about being open over 50 years. The Kozy Kitchen opened on June 19, 1946 by Mr. & Mrs. Albert B. Rosemore to serve local workers in the historic 5th Ward.
