Always remember that I have taken more out of alcohol than alcohol has taken out of me.

dbarrow2's Review of The Swinging Door

  • Atmosphere: Tucked back in the southern prairie town of Richmond. I think I saw an Atwater Prairie Chicken crossing the road when I pulled into the joint. A bright yellow building easily visible from the road north of Richmond. A nice Schlitz Beer sign on the wall near our table, which by the way was my grandfather’s favorite on my mom’s side. They cook all of the meat over pecan which grandpappy had growing in his back yard over the hammock.
  • Overall: You have gotta love a place that is run entirely by woman and serves beer so cold it will hurt your teeth to drink it. Last stop before the big Astros game tonight so we were on our way.
  • Spare Rib: Ribs are tough with not very much flavor.
  • Sausage: Sausage has a nice bit of pepper and is very juicy. This is the kind of stuf that explodes in your mouth like a shot of Don Julio tequila when you bite into it.
  • Sauce: Sauce had too much Worcester sauce in it with way too much of something else.
  • Potato Salad: Potato salad was more like egg salad with dill and thyme.
  • Coleslaw: Coleslaw scores high with a good helping of raisins and plenty of nice texture.
  • Beans: Ranch style beans taste straight out of the can with a dash of chili pepper in them.
  • Brisket: The brisket is very picturesque with nice bark on it. The meat looked to thick to be tender but was very moist and delicious.
