Smoke Daddy's Review of Winslows City Market Barbecue

The rib, pork, and sauce were the best of the bunch today (well, and the bar - beers were quite tasty).

MAIN FARE:Winslows Spread

  • Brisket - Smoky smell / Smoky taste.  Hickory, with a touch of bitterness.  Not sliced too thin (like many KC joints), but still a bit dry today.
  • Rib - Tender, juicy, and comes off the bone with the slightest tug.  Also very smoky.  Best of the day so far (3rd stop).
  • Burnt Ends - Very smoky, as you would expect... with some bitterness.  Not served pre-sauced.  A mixture of chewy and tender meat morsels.
  • Sausage - Salty, but not too greasy.  Firm texture, and yes, smoky.
  • Pork - Tender and moist.  Smooth and sweet.  Second piece was a bit drier and more chewy.

Winslows Bar

  • Beans - Sweet & Meaty.  Nice balance of spices.  Good.
  • Potato Salad - Tangy and mildly sweet.
  • Slaw - Crunchy, sweet, and tangy. Nice.
  • Fries - Nice crunchy coating on the fries.
  • Regular Sauce - Heavy brown sugar up front.  Fairly good, but standard.
  • Spicy Sauce - Less brown sugar, more spice.

  • City Market area is niceWinslows Pit
  • Large (empty) patio area seats 300
  • From the street, we walk into an empty bar area
  • 15-20 customers in the dining room @ 1:30pm.
  • Comfortable dining area, but we opt to order at the bar
  • T-Shirt: "We Smoke Anything in Kansas City"
  • Weird: Why do I smell pizza in a barbecue restaurant?
